The fifth season of the Syfy reality television series Face Off premiered on August 13, 2013. The season features 16 prosthetic makeup artists competing against each other to create makeup effects. This is the first season to feature the return of eight prior contestants competing against eight new contestants. The grand prize for the fifth season is a VIP trip from Kryolan to one of their 85 locations, a 2013 Fiat 500, and $100,000. A rule violation occurred and is noted during the end credits of episode 5, details are unknown.

After a demon-based foundation challenge with guest judges James Wan and Lin Shaye, the remaining contestants take on classic Mother Goose characters for a double-elimination with instructions to put a modern spin on them.

Subterranean Terror
Artists explore tunnels in search of clues.
Episode 5
Mother Earth Goddess
Artists use elements from an arboretum and their own mothers to create Mother Nature goddesses.

Trick or Treat
The artists are asked to incorporate a gag element to their designs.
Episode 7
Living Art
The artists must create characters that could live within iconic art movements.
Episode 8
Cosmic Circus
Artists are faced with creating dark and sexy alien circus characters for an out-of-this-world performance.

Mortal Sins
The artists learn they must each create a character that embodies one of the seven deadly sins.
Episode 10
The Laughing Dead
Arriving at the famous Laugh Factory comedy club, the artists are tasked with creating an original ghost character that is funny and scary.

Dark Magic
At Kenneth Hahn Park, the artists are asked to choose magical Norse runes to inspire a dark elf warrior character.

Flights of Fantasy
The contestants create original human-bird hybrids for the penultimate Spotlight Challenge.

The artists must create a sorcerer and swan for a special performance.
